Designed and produced in France in 1956, the Magister became the world’s first jet powered basic trainer to enter military service. Made distinctive by its ‘butterfly’ tail unit it quickly gained widespread acceptance with orders coming from Belgium and Austria while licenced production also took place for the German, Finnish and Israeli Air Forces.
The Fouga Magister (French for school house) was designed in France as a light two-seat twin-jet trainer for the French Air Force. Etablissements Fouga was a limited liability company formed by Breguet, Dassault, Morane-Saulnier, Sue-Est Aviation and Ouest-Aviation. The aircraft was sold to a number of countries and is particularly well know for flying as an aerobatic team aircraft.
